Starlight Star Bright! December 13th 2011
Today I took a party of 30 children and their families from my Starlight charity to see a performance by the English National Ballet of The Nutcracker - my second visit in a week and I am seeing it twice more before it finishes the run on December 30th - the day was perfect and magical.
We gave everyone lunch in the American Bar and the ENB organised for Crystal Costa, a First Artist with the ballet to be our very own Sugar Plum Fairy and although not dancing in the role until the following Saturday, Crystal wore the Sugar Plum’s full glittering gold tutu and coronet - the children were completely entranced. These children are seriously and terminally ill and the courage of their parents and the strength and fortitude of these tiny little people with such a tenuous grip on their lives, was inspiration to everyone. The entire First Cast danced and then welcomed the children backstage, played and talked to them and showed them everything about this wonderful ballet from right on stage and under the lights . I am so grateful to them all for this gesture of kindness.
I spoke to everyone and thanked them personally including the amazing Daria Klimentova and Vadim Muntagirov whose sublime dancing partnership is electric. They were charming and friendly and Daria is coming into French Sole next week to choose some shoes - we are all so excited!
I love my friend Darcy Bussell and am so thrilled that she wears all French Sole shoes and when I had tea with her at Browns a couple of weeks ago, she gave me the most amazing painting of her own red satin ballet shoes as a gift ! Her talent amazes me and I wonder who will fill her role now that she has retired and lives in Australia with her husband and two beautiful daughters - also French Sole fans! I think it will be Daria Klimentova, but watch this space !
